Andy Murray’s upcoming Wimbledon farewell is in jeopardy following his decision to undergo surgery on his back this Saturday. The news of the surgery, which was scheduled less than two weeks before the tournament, has raised concerns among fans and tennis experts alike.

Murray’s camp confirmed the surgery after he withdrew from a match at Queen’s due to a sore back earlier in the week. A spokesperson for Murray stated that more information would be provided after the procedure and updates would be shared accordingly.

The decision for surgery comes after Murray mentioned plans for scans and a leading back specialist suggested a slipped disc might be the cause of his recent injury scare. Despite expressing hope of playing at Wimbledon, doubts have been raised by sports injury specialists. A leading trauma and orthopaedic spine surgeon, Prof Arun Ranganathan, believes Murray may have a slipped disc causing compression on a nerve, resulting in acute weakness in his leg.

Murray, who has experienced back injuries before and underwent surgery in 2013, rarely retires from matches. However, his history of back issues has been a recurring challenge in his career. After a disappointing French Open performance last month, he had mentioned undergoing treatment for back soreness.

The uncertainty surrounding Murray’s condition and his upcoming surgery has left fans and tennis enthusiasts eagerly awaiting updates on his recovery and potential Wimbledon participation.
