Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, is considering retirement from professional tennis. The 37-year-old former world number one initially stated in February that he did not plan to continue playing much past the summer. However, speaking to BBC Sport at Queen’s Club, Murray indicated that he may retire after competing in either Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics.

Murray has fond memories and experiences from Wimbledon, where he claimed victory in 2013 and 2016, as well as from competing in multiple British Olympic teams. He believes that retiring at one of those events would be more fitting considering his career highlights at those events. While his decision to continue playing depends on his physical condition and results, Murray expressed doubts about participating in the US Open or the Davis Cup later this year.

The upcoming major tournaments for Murray are Wimbledon scheduled to take place from 1 to 14 July at the All England Club and the Olympics at Roland Garros from 27 July to 4 August. As a two-time Olympic gold medalist in singles, he is looking forward to representing Team GB in Paris. However, if his physical condition and results do not meet his expectations, Murray stated that he may consider retiring from tennis altogether.

While retirement may be a celebratory milestone for many, Murray genuinely enjoys playing tennis and would only consider it if his physical condition and results do not meet his expectations. After the Olympics, the US Open will be held from 26 August to 8 September, followed by the Davis Cup Finals group stage in September. For now, Murray remains committed to continuing to compete on the court while weighing his options for future plans.
