Amazon Fresh is revolutionizing its grocery shopping experience with the introduction of smart Dash Carts. The retailer has been working tirelessly to revamp its grocery strategy and is now shifting its focus to achieve success with its Fresh business. Instead of relying on Just Walk Out technology, the new batch of Fresh stores will use Dash Carts – smart shopping carts equipped with scanners and screens, allowing shoppers to check out as they shop.

In August, Amazon unveiled redesigned Fresh stores in Schaumburg and Oak Lawn, Ill., as part of its efforts to create a top-tier grocery shopping experience. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy acknowledged that the company’s venture into food retailing has faced challenges due to external circumstances, but expressed optimism about the enhancements being made to the Amazon Fresh operation. He mentioned ongoing experiments with selection, checkout formats, assortment, and price points, highlighting several promising outcomes.

According to reports, Amazon will continue to utilize Just Walk Out technology in a limited number of Fresh stores in the U.K. and some Amazon Go stores. However, existing Amazon Fresh locations will be updated to “version two” stores without the technology. This decision was made by Tony Hoggett, Amazon SVP of grocery stores, who revealed that Dash Carts enhance the shopping experience by facilitating easier navigation
