On Saturday, families in the Greater Scranton Area flocked to the YMCA in Dunmore for a “Thriving Together” event. This free community event was organized to raise awareness and celebrate the organization’s well-being initiative, “Mental health is wealth.”

Dozens of families attended the event and enjoyed various family fun activities such as a giant dart board, bounce houses, and meeting the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Mascot Tux. However, what really stood out and kept everyone in a calm state of mind was the alpaca petting zoo.

The alpacas at the petting zoo provided emotional support to the attendees. According to alpaca enthusiast Haley Schaffer, these animals are fluffy, friendly, and act as cuddle buddies. They are like having a dog at home, but with extra comfort and emotional support.

The program will continue to organize similar events that engage the community in activities and practices to support mental and emotional health. Events like these play a crucial role in promoting the importance of mental well-being in the community.
