Hair loss is a common problem that has traditionally affected men over the age of 40, but it is now becoming more prevalent among younger individuals, aged 18-20. This trend was highlighted by Dr. Vu Thai Ha, Head of the Department of Research and Application of Stem Cell Technology at Central Dermatology Hospital during the 7th National Aesthetic Dermatology Conference held on May 31.

During this conference, experts and doctors shared knowledge and experiences related to skin, hair, and nail care, as well as treatment and aesthetics. Dr. Ha noted that there has been a significant increase in the number of patients seeking treatment for hair loss and baldness at the hospital. The hospital now sees an average of 50 patients per week, double the number from a decade ago. Most of these patients are men who experience premature baldness and gray hair in their early twenties.

There are various factors that contribute to hair loss, including genetics, hormonal changes during puberty, lifestyle choices such as excessive use of hair dye, heat styling, and stress. Stress can prolong the hair loss process and lead to increased shedding. Dr. Ha emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, managing stress levels and seeking professional advice to prevent and treat hair loss effectively.

Several methods can be used to address hair loss such as medication, laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma, and hair transplant each targeting different aspects of hair growth restoration with varying levels of effectiveness controversy. It’s essential to consult with a specialist to determine which treatment approach would be best suited for individual needs.
