Aldi has announced a nationwide recall of four types of cream cheese products that may be contaminated with salmonella. The grocer, in collaboration with Schreiber Foods Inc., made the announcement as a precautionary measure. The affected cream cheese spreads include Happy Farms Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, Cream Cheese Spread, and Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread. These products were sold at Aldi stores in more than two dozen states and the District of Columbia.
In a statement, Aldi emphasized that the safety and integrity of their products are their top priority. Customers who have purchased any of the recalled cream cheese spreads are advised to either discard them immediately or return them to the local store for a full refund. The recall comes on the heels of a similar announcement by Hy-Vee, which recalled two types of cream cheese and Cookies & Cream snack mix due to salmonella concerns.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning typically appear within 12 to 72 hours of consuming contaminated food and can last for four to seven days. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. The FDA warns that children under five, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of experiencing severe infections. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms of salmonella should seek medical attention promptly.
