A’ja Wilson has been making a strong case for her third WNBA MVP award this season. Despite the Las Vegas Aces not performing as dominantly as usual, Wilson has been exceptional. In a recent game against the Phoenix Mercury, Wilson scored 32 points on 10-of-17 shooting, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out two assists, and had two blocks. This impressive performance marked her eighth straight game with at least 25 points, breaking the WNBA regular season record previously held by Tina Charles.

Wilson’s teammate Jackie Young also had a standout game, contributing 34 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Together they became the first set of teammates to score 30 points each in a game this season and the third pair in Aces franchise history. Their stellar performances helped the Aces break a three-game losing streak and secure a 103-99 victory over the Mercury, improving their season record to 6-5. It is worth noting that the Aces did not reach their fifth loss until much later in the season last year.

The Aces are eagerly anticipating the return of star point guard Chelsea Gray whose comeback is expected soon. Wilson has already achieved several milestones this season including recording the WNBA’s first 35-point, 10-rebound, five-steal game and becoming the first player in WNBA history to average 25 points, ten rebounds and three blocks across nine games. While Wilson’s statistics undeniably make her an MVP candidate
