Since 2017, Omar Al Olama has been the first minister in the world dedicated to developing an artificial intelligence strategy. The UAE, being one of the largest oil producers globally, considers AI efforts essential for diversifying its economy away from oil dependence.

The UAE aims to leverage artificial intelligence to contribute significantly to its economy by 2030. Al Olama seeks to establish the UAE as a global leader in artificial intelligence by 2031. The country has formulated a national strategy focusing on deploying AI in priority sectors, developing the ecosystem, and attracting talent.

The UAE’s commitment to advancing AI includes training government officials and educating citizens in AI-related fields. As of September, there were 120,000 people in the UAE working in AI or related sectors, a significant increase from two years ago. Al Olama emphasized the importance of choosing partners in the field of artificial intelligence amid global competition.

While Washington has restricted advanced American chip sales to prevent China from accessing the latest AI technology in the Middle East, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama assured that the UAE is a trustworthy partner in AI development and emphasized the presence of advanced American technology in the Emirates.
