Afghanistan has made history by beating Australia for the first time ever in any format of the game, winning by 21 runs in the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2024. The country’s spinners were known for their exceptional performance, with Gulbadin Naib taking four wickets and earning the Player of the Match award. This victory kept Afghanistan’s semi-final hopes alive and added a significant twist to their Super 8 Group standings.

To qualify for the semi-finals, Afghanistan must win their next game against Bangladesh. Even a narrow loss could be enough, but India would need to beat Australia by a large margin to support Afghanistan’s Net Run Rate. Unfortunately, Bangladesh is currently in a challenging position as they have yet to win a game in the Super 8s. With a Net Run Rate of -2.489, it seems highly unlikely that they will be able to progress.
