This victory kept Afghanistan’s semi-final hopes alive and added a significant twist to their Super 8 Group standings.
To qualify for the semi-finals, Afghanistan must win their next game against Bangladesh. Even a narrow loss could be enough, but India would need to beat Australia by a large margin to support Afghanistan’s Net Run Rate. Unfortunately, Bangladesh is currently in a challenging position as they have yet to win a game in the Super 8s. With a Net Run Rate of -2.489, it seems highly unlikely that they will be able to progress.
