An escaped homicide suspect, Kegan VanVliet, was recently captured by the Colorado State Patrol with the help of infrared technology. VanVliet, a 45-year-old man who fled from Fremont County Jail on June 7, had attempted to shoot his spouse before escaping.

The CSP Aircraft Unit worked closely with troopers on the ground, local law enforcement agencies and U.S. Marshals in El Paso County to locate VanVliet. Their efforts focused on Interstate 25 and East Woodman Road in Colorado Springs, where they believed VanVliet’s abandoned vehicle was located in a parking lot. Despite the darkness of the night, infrared technology proved instrumental in locating VanVliet.

A concerned citizen had tipped off law enforcement about VanVliet’s whereabouts, leading to his discovery. Troopers from the aircraft unit tracked VanVliet as he moved away from the area. Using this information, they were able to guide law enforcement agents to his location and arrest him without any further trouble.

The Colorado State Patrol captured the moment of VanVliet’s arrest on camera, showcasing the effectiveness of infrared technology in tracking and capturing suspects. This successful operation highlights how advanced technology can be used to bring criminals to justice quickly and efficiently.
