Marian Robinson, the former first lady of the United States, passed away at the age of 86. Her family announced her death on social media, expressing their heartbreak and uncertainty about moving forward without her. During Barack Obama’s two terms as president, Robinson lived in the White House to help raise her granddaughters Malia and Sasha, earning her the nickname “First Grandma.”

Robinson was known for her unconditional support of her family, with Michelle referring to her as the “grandmother in chief” during Barack’s re-election campaign. She was a simple, discreet woman dedicated to her family, always providing support and encouragement. Robinson was born in Chicago and had a passion for music, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Despite her initial reluctance to leave Chicago, Robinson eventually moved to Washington in 2010 to be closer to her family and help raise her granddaughters in the White House. She preferred simplicity over the luxuries of Washington, enjoying spending time with her granddaughters and watching TV in her bedroom with a view of the Washington Monument.

Robinson’s connection to Argentina through meetings with the Pope and a visit to Buenos Aires stood out during her time in Washington. After Barack Obama’s presidency ended, Robinson returned to Chicago where she enjoyed trips, friends, and good wine. Her memory remains cherished in Washington, with Michelle announcing that an exhibition at the Obama Presidential Center chronicling their time in the White House will be named after her.
