In a recent interview with Stormtracker8 Meteorologist Matt DiNardo on WRIC NOW, 8News Sports Director Nolan Knight spoke about the future of sports coverage on Channel 8. Knight, a native of Virginia, shared how his love for sports began at a young age. He recalled times of doing play-by-play commentary while playing video games like Madden or NCAA Football on PlayStation 2.

Prior to joining 8News, Knight served as the Sports Director at WAAY in Huntsville, Alabama. During his time there, he extensively covered the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers and received recognition from the Alabama Broadcasting Association for his high school football show, “Big Game Friday Night.” Knight expressed his excitement to return to Virginia and cover high school football, a sport that he has personal connections to.

Looking ahead, Knight is thrilled to cover a wide range of sports at 8News, including high school sports and collegiate athletics. He is looking forward to covering local teams like VCU basketball, Richmond football, and Virginia Union. Knight acknowledged the rich sports culture in Richmond and beyond, mentioning the excitement surrounding teams in Charlottesville and Blacksburg. He noted that the ACC is expected to have a competitive season, and he is eager to provide coverage of all the action.

Knight is scheduled to make his debut on 8News on Monday, June 24 during the 6 p.m. and 8 p.m broadcasts. Viewers can expect to see more livestream content on the WRIC NOW page as well.
