A video showing a living Israeli hostage has been released by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, sparking renewed calls for negotiations to secure his release and that of the other 120 people still detained in the Gaza Strip. The hostage, Sasha Trupanov, is a 28-year-old Israeli-Russian citizen who was captured on October 7 in Kibbutz Nir Oz and taken to the Gaza Strip. In the video, he addresses Israelis and all demonstrators, promising to reveal the truth about his situation and that of other prisoners in Gaza in the coming days.

Since October 7, there have been ongoing tensions between Hamas and Israel over the treatment of Palestinians living in Gaza. The Israeli retaliatory military operation resulted in over 36,000 deaths, mostly civilians, according to the Health Ministry of the Hamas-led Gaza government. However, efforts to secure peace and bring an end to violence continue as calls grow louder for negotiations on behalf of those still held captive in Gaza.

The families of those kidnapped since October 7 have called for a clear mandate for negotiations to secure their release. The latest video release by Palestinian Islamic Jihad has reignited discussions about reaching an agreement for their safe return home. Despite this progress, tensions remain high as efforts continue towards securing peace and bringing an end to violence in the region.
