The San Antonio Zoo is drawing attention to the importance of conservation efforts to protect giraffes. World Giraffe Day is on Friday, and the zoo is showcasing the enhancements being made to the Savanna Habitat for its giraffes. Construction is currently underway to expand the habitat by 126%.

Cyle Perez, the director of public relations & integrated marketing at the San Antonio Zoo, explained that a portion of ticket sales goes towards conservation work for giraffes and other animals worldwide. The expansion of the Savanna Habitat will allow for an expansion of the breeding program and house six giraffes in a new giraffe barn.

The zoo offers educational activities for visitors to learn more about their conservation projects. Friday is designated as Local’s Day, offering $8 admission tickets for Bexar County residents. This initiative helps to engage the local community in the zoo’s efforts to protect giraffes and other animals.
