On Wednesday morning, a fire destroyed the Pennick Funeral Home in North Philadelphia, leaving behind only charred remains of the nearly century-old establishment. Located on Montgomery Avenue in Brewerytown since 1928, the funeral home had been a beloved part of the community for generations.

The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m., with Pennick’s 87-year-old mother and 16-year-old nephew in the house. Flames erupted from a third-floor bedroom, prompting Pennick’s nephew to evacuate everyone from the house. Firefighters were able to safely remove the bodies of the deceased from the reposing room of the funeral home.

Despite the tragedy, Pennick is grateful that everyone got out safely and that they were able to ensure the safety of their loved ones. The support from the community has been overwhelming, with many reaching out to offer comfort and help. Pennick is determined to rebuild and restore the legacy her family has built over the years. As the Philadelphia Fire Marshal’s office investigates the cause of the fire, Pennick remains focused on continuing to provide support to people in need.
