52-year-old Mr. Dong has been living with ankylosing spondylitis of the hip since childhood. His condition worsened over time, causing his legs to be 4 cm apart and limiting his ability to walk. However, after receiving a right artificial hip replacement using the SuperPATH incision technique at Tam Anh General Hospital, he is now able to walk normally.

Mr. Dong had been suffering from hip ankylosing spondylitis since the age of 9, which caused him pain and stiffness in his joints, making it difficult for him to run, jump or engage in heavy work. Despite trying various medications to alleviate the pain, his condition continued to deteriorate until a recent MRI revealed severe right hip osteoarthritis due to years of adhesive inflammation.

The surgery was performed by MSc.BSc.CKI Dang Khoa Khoa, Head of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics at Tam Anh General Hospital under customized TraumaCad software that selected an artificial joint that matched Mr. Dong’s body ensuring optimal outcomes. The minimally invasive method preserved soft tissues, muscles, and joint capsules resulting in quicker post-operative recovery for Mr. Dong.

After surgery, Dr Hoc emphasized the importance of rehabilitation for patients like Mr. Dong to restore gait, improve muscle strength and increase joint mobility while reducing the risk of post-operative complications. Within three days of the surgery, Mr. Dong experienced significant relief from pain regained ease in walking and found his legs to be of equal length leading to discharge from hospital on April 24th .

Dr Hoc highlighted that preserving a patient’s natural body parts should always be considered before resorting to any medical treatment or surgery as possible .
