In a shocking turn of events, Broward School Board in Fort Lauderdale, FL announced the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Peter Licata during a meeting on Tuesday. The news came as a surprise to many, as Licata had been leading the district for over 30 years and was widely respected in the community.

According to sources, Licata cited health concerns as the reason for his decision to step down from his role as an educator. He had been receiving treatment for a medical condition for several months and after consulting with his family and doctors, he determined that it was best for him to retire.

The board voted 8-1 to replace Licata with Howard Hepburn, a deputy superintendent within the district. Hepburn will take over as Superintendent on January 1st, 2022. This marks the fourth time in just four years that Broward County Public Schools has had to search for a new leader.

Licata expressed gratitude to the community for their faith and trust in him throughout his tenure as Superintendent. He believes that the district is well-positioned for even greater accomplishments in the future, despite his departure.
