Tesla employees have been expressing concerns over potential layoffs that may begin as early as this weekend. Some engineers from different locations have shared their fears, even though there has been no official communication about the matter. While some workers are taking these rumors seriously, others are not giving them much weight.
This is not the first time Tesla employees have faced anxiety over job security. In February, the company asked managers to identify the most critical roles and delayed some workers’ performance reviews. Although the reviews were eventually rescheduled, uncertainty remained regarding job security.
The tech industry has seen several companies make cuts this year, including Google and Microsoft. Even EV rivals like Rivian and Fisker have laid off staff in 2024. Tesla has also faced challenges in the form of a decline in sales during the first quarter. Deliveries fell 20% from the previous quarter and over 8% from the same time last year, marking the company’s first year-on-year sales decline since 2020.
