A project set to be completed by the beginning of next month aims to provide 2 million meals a day to the residents of the Gaza Strip. The initiative, which involves six US Navy ships and 1,000 US army soldiers, was prompted by the limitations of the existing shallow water port in Gaza. The pier is being constructed with a floating dock to facilitate transportation of equipment.
However, senior Israeli officials, including IDF officials, have expressed concerns about the establishment of the pier. They argue that it would be challenging to maintain full Israeli control over the pier and goods transported through it. Despite Israel’s official responsibility for inspecting goods, maintaining exclusive control over the pier was seen as an arduous task that would become increasingly difficult over time.
