A showcase of the latest policing technology was recently hosted by the Knoxville Police Department. Axon, a company specializing in creating equipment for law enforcement officers, presented their new gadgets including drones, body cameras and virtual reality training tools.
The virtual reality training allows officers to practice handling dangerous situations in a simulated environment. Body cameras, which have been used by KPD for a few years, are also helpful for training purposes as they provide valuable footage for supervisors to assess and offer guidance on how to handle different situations.
Among the new technologies on display was a security camera database that allows businesses to give permission to law enforcement agencies to access their security camera footage in real time if a crime occurs. This tool can provide officers with important information about the situation they are responding to, enhancing their safety and preparedness.
KPD is planning to incorporate the security camera data base technology soon and will be putting it out to bid. The showcase was attended by several law enforcement agencies, such as Caryville Police Department and TEMA, indicating that this new technology has the potential to benefit law enforcement agencies across the region.
