In a tragic incident, at least five aid workers delivering food to starving civilians in Gaza were killed in an Israeli military strike. The non-profit group World Central Kitchen confirmed the deaths and condemned the attack on humanitarian aid workers and civilians. They emphasized that such individuals should never be targeted and promised to share more information once all the facts were gathered.

The founder of World Central Kitchen, José Andrés, confirmed the deaths but did not provide specific details. Videos obtained by CNN showed the bodies of individuals wearing World Central Kitchen vests following an airstrike in the city of Deir Al-Balah, with passports from Britain, Poland, and Australia visible in the footage.

The IDF stated that they are conducting a thorough review to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, the Australian government is urgently seeking to confirm reports of an Australian aid worker’s death in Gaza. They emphasized the need to protect civilian lives in the conflict and ensure safe access for humanitarian workers.

World Central Kitchen has a history of providing meals to disaster-stricken regions, including Haiti and Puerto Rico. They have also offered food relief to war-torn areas like Ukraine after the Russian invasion. In March, they sent a shipment of 200 tons of food aid to Gaza, marking the first maritime shipment of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave. This shipment included enough ingredients for 500,000 meals to be distributed in an area where hundreds of thousands of people are facing famine.
