Meta and WhatsApp are both developing new tools based on generative AI for photo editing. Meta has created the Meta AI chatbot and Expressive Media Universe (EMU), which allows users to create stickers from text and images. These features are expected to be incorporated into Instagram in the future, along with two additional tools based on generative AI: Restyle, which applies visual styles based on a description, and Backdrop, which allows users to modify their backgrounds.

WhatsApp’s latest version for Android includes a new button in the photo sending interface that offers options such as cropping, rotating the photo, adding stickers and text, using the drawing tool, and more. In addition to these options, new features for background modification, style changes, and resizing images have been incorporated into the app. However, it remains unclear if these features will also be available for iOS devices in the future.
