The staff members of the University Health Service will be given a unique opportunity to witness the excitement of the 2024 Solar Eclipse as they have decided to close their office for one hour in the afternoon on April 8th, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. During this time, Dr. Ethan Beaudett, their Medical Chief, will be on-call to handle any urgent calls received by their answering service. After this hour, normal operations will resume at 4:00 p.m.

The eclipse is a momentous event in history and everyone should take advantage of this opportunity to witness it safely and responsibly. Professor James Zavislan, an expert in optics, biomedical engineering, and ophthalmology explains that it’s crucial to protect your eyes during a solar eclipse in order to avoid any potential long-term damage to your vision. He recommends using eclipse glasses which can safeguard your eyes from the sun’s light.

If you don’t have access to eclipse glasses before the total solar eclipse, you can obtain up two pairs with a University ID from locations on the River Campus and at the Eastman School of Music. Make sure you use them correctly and responsibly so that you can enjoy this incredible natural phenomenon without any harm or regrets!
