The 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk are currently in talks about a lucrative contract extension, but it seems the negotiations are not progressing at this time. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the two parties have been in discussions for an extension that would put Aiyuk at the top of the market, but nothing is close to being finalized.

Fowler also mentioned that Aiyuk was part of trade talks during the draft and that he is looking for a new contract with one year left on his current deal. While the 49ers are open to an extension, talks have not advanced enough to indicate a resolution is near.

This week, Organized Team Activities (OTAs) begin in Santa Clara, and it remains uncertain if Aiyuk will participate in the voluntary practices. Given the interest in him during the draft and the team’s plans to move forward with him, negotiations will likely continue throughout the offseason and possibly into training camp.

Given the history of contract negotiations with other players, it could take some time before a deal is finalized for Aiyuk. However, both parties are interested in reaching an agreement on an extension that would keep him with the 49ers for several more seasons.
